Winter Color Series: Interior Paints for Wisconsin’s Winter Weary

If the winter is starting to cause you great weariness already, consider livening up your home with some warm paint colors. We've talked about using warm colors before to make a room more vibrant, so now we're exploring interior paint colors that could be used to distraact you from the harsh weather outside in our new "Winter Color Series

Applying these colors to walls will give your home the makeover it might well need, while putting you at ease in the process.

Here are our first three color suggestions for the winter weary.

1. Mexicana

The color Mexicana has a very Southwestern look about it—that baked red often found in homes in New Mexico, Arizona and on the other side of the border. It's warm without being eye-popping and would work with a variety of furniture and decorations. Check out a sample over at Benjamin Moore.

2. Lime Green

This is a rather more bold color choice, but it can be wonderfully expressive and uplifting for homeowners. Lime Green would work well for a bedroom or a sun room, and would be best complimented with white furnishings and furniture, or cream hues. Black and white also compliments Lime Green, especially when it comes to framed photographs and pillows. A mocha brown might also be considered since it duplicates the look of the spring and summer months.

3. Forsythia Blossom

This was touted as one of the hottest color trends of 2010 and though its 2012 we still think Forsythia Blossom packs a vibrant punch. It's a yellow hue that is bright but not overpowering. Like Lime Green, it would work best with whites in a bedroom or sun room, but also think of applying it to a kitchen's walls. Combined with newly-stained cabinets, or a vintage effect, Forsythia would look positively gorgeous.
