Lakeside Painting Joins Forces with Special Spaces to Make Brianna’s Dream Bedroom Come True

Tuesday, August 27, 2019

Last Tuesday, Lakeside had the honor of joining forces with Special Spaces, a national volunteer organization that creates "dream bedrooms" for children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Special Spaces’ mission is to give children a positive, healthy, and most of all fun bedroom—a safe haven to enjoy and aide in their recovery.

At the start of each project, Special Spaces interviews the child to gather ideas and wishes of what their bedroom makeover should look like. The child’s ideas are then sent on to a team of volunteers who create their design. Once the design is complete, the next group of volunteers build, paint, and arrange the dream bedroom in just two days! While construction is underway, Special Spaces sends the child and their family on an overnight waterpark hotel stay so the bedroom reveal can be a surprise.

Lakeside took part in the makeover for Brianna, a 9-year old girl who has had many heart surgeries, and will continue to have more in the future. Brianna, her little sister, and family were filled with happiness and excitement at the reveal on August 21, 2019. When Brianna was asked what she liked most about her bedroom she said, “Everything.” Her smile was worth a thousand words!

Lakeside would like to sincerely thank Cindy Thorta, Director of Special Space’s Milwaukee division, and her partner Greta Kassan, the organization’s Associate Director, and their entire team for the invitation to take part in such a wonderful project. You all are truly angels making a difference.

We would also like to thank Lakeside’s Patrick Boyle and Jennifer Perrine for painting Brianna’s bedroom. Patrick, your guiding light and top notch painting skills really stood out. And last but not least, we would like to thank Teve Gorman and Vicki Muszynski for being instrumental in leading us to Special Spaces. Lakeside is honored and humbled to be part of such a great team!
