There’s nothing worse than water damage. It’s ugly, unhealthy, and destructive. The good news is, the professional painters at Lakeside Painting can help you waterproof the interior and exterior of your home or business. There are various methods of waterproofing to help ensure the protection of your valuables for years to come.

Cementitious Waterproofing

Cementitious waterproofing is the simplest form of waterproofing. Materials are readily available and easy to mix. We usually use this method for internal wet areas such as bathrooms. Cementitious waterproofing is a rigid method of waterproofing that can be applied to water treatment plants, dams, subway systems, cargo ports and docks, tunnels, parking structures, and more.

Liquid Waterproofing Membrane Method

A liquid membrane is a thin film that consists of a primer coat and two top coats which are applied via spray, roller, or trowel. Liquid waterproofing methods are more flexible than cementitious methods. The result of liquid waterproofing is a rubber-like coat with elastic properties.

Bituminous Coating Waterproofing Method

Bituminous coating, also referred to as asphalt coating, is a type of waterproofing that provides a flexible protective coating. Its level of flexibility and imperviousness to water can be affected by the polymer grade as well as the reinforcement of the fiber. We typically use bituminous coatings in areas that are under wet screed. It is an excellent waterproofing agent but not suitable for extended exposure to sunlight, which causes the coating to become brittle and fragile.

Polyurethane Liquid Membrane Waterproofing

Polyurethane liquid membrane waterproofing is rather expensive. It is usually used for the flat portions of roofs and other areas with regular exposure to the elements. This method offers high levels of flexibility. However, because it is susceptible to present moisture content, installers need to be sure to carefully evaluate the moisture content of the concrete slab before application. High levels of moisture in the concrete slab could lead to peeling or de-bonding.
