Are you into antiques? Is your home on the older side, or has natural wear and tear just gotten the best of your woodwork? If so, the painting contractors at Lakeside Painting are here to help. While we are a painting company, we offer several residential services including refinishing handrails, bookshelves, and other types of woodwork.

Our residential painting services extend throughout southeast Wisconsin, and we provide our customers with a written labor and materials warranty. That means that if anything goes wrong – whether with the craftsmanship or materials – one of our professional painters will come out and fix it for you free of charge.

What is “Refinishing?”

Some of the most beautiful and unique pieces are constructed from wood. But after time, wood tends to weather, crack, and experience the effects of aging. Refinishing unlocks the beauty hiding behind dingy wood.

When refinishing wood, you will first need to remove the old paint. If possible, move the pieces to be refinished into a well-ventilated area. Then, apply a coat of paint stripper and let it rest for about half an hour. As the paint lifts away, use a scraper to gently remove the paint residue.

After the paint has been removed, sand the surface of the piece to remove the remaining paint. While sanding, it is essential to pay close attention to rounded edges, carved insets, and other details in the woodwork. You can also use steel wool to help you get into the crevices.

After you’ve sanded and cleaned the area, fill in any dents or scratches with wood filler. After the wood filler has dried, sand it again to make the area flush with the rest of the piece. Clean the piece of furniture and your workspace to ensure that all the dust is gone. Otherwise, you will end up with a gritty-looking paint job.

Then, apply an oil-based stain. After the stain has dried, you should seal the wood.

If this sounds like a lot of work, that’s because it is. Fortunately, you don’t have to do it yourself. Just reach out to Lakeside Painting. We are one of the few paint companies in southeast Wisconsin that has been proudly serving the community for more than three decades.

We offer a number of painting services including refinishing wood, painting fireplaces and mantles, drywall repairs and much more.
